Is it possible to have perfect vision with keratoconus?

Most people with keratoconus have myopic astigmatism, which can increase over time; it is this worsening of vision that leads the patient to see a specialist.
Fortunately, however, there are patients with keratoconus who possess good vision or, at any rate, manage to achieve 20/20 through correction with glasses or a simple soft contact lens.
It is known that keratoconus is a bilateral disease that can present asymmetrically, so it would be normal to find early, asymptomatic keratoconus in the other eye of a patient who has already undergone cross-linking in the diseased eye. Nevertheless, there are cases that show that the patient with keratoconus can safely have good uncorrected or best-corrected vision; this can happen when the cone or the area of irregular astigmatism is outside the visual axis.
